Why Drapeon Counsel

What Sets the Engagement Apart

Discretion as a Starting Point

Nothing leaves the room without written consent. We work in private with each principal in turn before any group conversation takes place.

Written Deliverables

Every engagement concludes with a written document — a charter, a pathway, or a considered letter — so that decisions rest on paper, not memory.

Unhurried Process

We set the pace to fit the sensitivity of the question, not the other way around. Family matters rarely benefit from impatience.

Counsel That Listens First

We do not arrive with a fixed template. We sit with the situation before offering any view, so that what we recommend reflects the particular enterprise, not a generic model.

Multi-Generational Perspective

We have worked alongside family enterprises across sectors in Malaysia for over a decade, and that depth shapes every engagement.

Coordination with Legal Advisors

We conclude engagements with a handover session to your existing legal counsel, so that our work integrates cleanly with formal legal requirements.

Begin with One Question

Most principals come to us with
a single, quietly pressing question.

A Counsel Letter costs RM 750 and requires no prior relationship. Write to us, and we will read carefully before we write back.

Questions We Are Often Asked

Frequently Asked

Who is Drapeon Counsel suited for? +

We work primarily alongside principals of second- and third-generation family enterprises in Malaysia — founders who are beginning to think about what comes after them, or family members navigating the weight of shared ownership. Founders of closely held businesses who simply need a thoughtful outside view also find us useful, particularly through our Counsel Letter engagement.

How does the first conversation work? +

We invite you to write to us briefly about the matter on your mind — not a formal document, just a paragraph or two. From there, we arrange a private call at a time that suits you, typically lasting thirty to forty-five minutes. There is no obligation following that call, and we do not charge for it.

What is a Counsel Letter, exactly? +

A Counsel Letter is a written engagement: you send us a single letter describing a question you are turning over — a hiring decision, a difficult family conversation, a policy matter — and we reply within ten business days with a considered written response of roughly 1,200 to 1,500 words. The format suits those who want a thoughtful outside view without committing to a longer relationship. The fee is RM 750 per letter.

How long does a Family Enterprise Counsel engagement take? +

The Family Enterprise Counsel engagement typically runs over three to four months. We begin by meeting privately with each principal in turn, then convene a small working group to develop the family charter. The engagement concludes with a handover session alongside your existing legal advisors.

Is what we discuss kept confidential? +

Discretion is the foundation of how we work. Nothing discussed in private sessions is shared beyond the principal without explicit written agreement. In Succession Mapping engagements, capability profiles are shown only to the commissioning principal unless otherwise agreed in writing.

What are the fees, and how are they structured? +

Family Enterprise Counsel engagements begin from RM 3,300. Succession Mapping engagements begin from RM 2,900. A Counsel Letter is RM 750. Fees are agreed in writing before any work begins. We do not charge on a time-and-materials basis for our longer engagements — the scope and fee are fixed at the outset.
